Jonathan Roche is the Founder and CEO of Breakthrough Health & Wellness Solutions, Inc. He is a Certified Personal Trainer, an Award-Winning Fitness Expert, Best Selling Author, a 12-time Ironman Triathlon Finisher and a 19-time Boston Marathon Finisher (running 13 straight as a member of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Team).
In 1995 Jonathan weighed 224 pounds and was working long hours at Fidelity Investments when his Dad (who struggled with his weight his whole life) died suddenly of a heart attack. Jonathan then went on his own wellness journey, lost 40 pounds and ran his first Boston Marathon. Jonathan, who today weighs 180 pounds, has seen first-hand how health problems can ruin families and is therefore very passionate about helping people achieve improved health and wellness.
Jonathan’s fitness and weight loss systems have been sold in most major retailers (including Target, REI, Dick's Sporting Goods, Kmart and Jenny Craig) and surpassed 300,000 products sold. He’s been featured on NBC, ABC and the WB in Colorado as a guest Fitness Expert and he has been featured in the L.A. Times, Skiing Magazine and Women's Health & Fitness.
Jonathan is viewed as one of the leading experts on Interval Training. He recognized the power of interval workouts in 1995 when he started his own weight loss journey and then researched whether interval training was safe and appropriate for people new to exercise and/or trying to lose significant weight. The research was astounding: Interval workouts can help you burn 30% more calories than exercising at a set pace and can leave your metabolism elevated post-workout for up to 12 hours and have been proven to be safe for beginners. In fact the Mayo Clinic recently stated: “Once the domain of elite athletes, interval training has become a powerful tool for the average exerciser, too.”
Jonathan started creating personalized interval training plans for people trying to get fit and lose weight in the late 90s. Breakthrough Health & Wellness Solutions received a patent (“Interval Fitness Training” Patents # 7,641,592 and 7,981,002) for the company’s proprietary software that personalizes an individual’s interval workouts based on their health status, goals and schedule.
Jonathan's reputation as a Fitness Expert led to his work with Florida Congressman Adam Putnam's office to help the Congressman in his efforts to enhance the language of the National Head Start Program to include programs that educate children on increasing their fitness and improving their health. He has also worked with the Houston Independent School Board to help them take on childhood obesity.
Jonathan's approach to wellness centers on empowering individuals to implement fun and effective workouts that can be adapted to everyone – no matter their fitness level or schedule. Using interval training principles that are tailored to the individual, Breakthrough developed the innovative Online Boot Camp program.
Committed to using Jonathan’s work as a platform to help those around him, Breakthrough Health & Wellness Solutions contributes five percent of its profits to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dana-Farber (where Jonathan’s Mom was treated for lung cancer) is a Boston-based cancer organization that works to achieve better cure rates and enhance patients' quality of life.
